If Tubman were to be placed on the $20 bill however, she wouldn’t be the first black person to appear on American currency. IMG_5041Booker T. Washington and George Washington Carver appeared on the silver half dollar set that was issued from 1951-1954. Booker T. Washington a former slave that among his many accomplishments founded Tuskegee University in 1881. Carver, also a former slave, was an inventor, botanist and educator at Tuskegee University and developed many methods, crops and aids for farmers.
