ESHE Magazine: How did you get started in the entertainment business?
Natalia Bilbao: I was a semi-pro tennis player as a teenager but had always wanted to be an actress. When I turned 18 and started college I decided to give it a chance, so I attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London for a summer course and that was enough to convince me that I wanted to pursue a career in acting. I did my first short film when I was 19-20 and got hooked.
ESHE Magazine: When did you feel like this would be your career path?
Natalia Bilbao: I feel like I always knew as a kid that I wanted to be a storyteller but I didn’t know it could be a career because no one in my family or in my world worked in the entertainment industry. I just loved performing and storytelling so much that it just felt like a career as an actress would really help channel all my passion and desire to tell impactful stories and experience life through other people’s eyes.
ESHE Magazine: What has been your biggest role to date?
Natalia Bilbao: All the roles I’ve played have been very special to me and I wouldn’t consider one to be the biggest. I think my biggest role is yet to come which I think is a great place to be in and keep me hungry and working on my craft. One of my favorites was the last one I did, Morgan, for a feature film called Mind Heist.
ESHE Magazine: Tell us more about that particular production and where it was shot?
Natalia Bilbao: It was shot in New Mexico, directed by Andrew Kiaro. It’s an action thriller and I play the villain. It was a blast!
ESHE Magazine: What inspires you to keep going in an extremely competitive business?
Natalia Bilbao: The passion for telling impactful stories and touching people in the same way I have been touched when I’ve watched a good movie or heard a great story. The incredible people I’ve met and the passion
ESHE Magazine: What person (or people) made an impact on you in your career?
Natalia Bilbao: My parents, my brother, Juanjo Ortiz and his family, Ian Lennen and all the people along the way who gave me an opportunity and also my icons, Katherine Hepburn, Cate Blanchett and Lady Gaga, examples of passionate and hard-working women.
ESHE Magazine: What do you enjoy most when you are not working in front of the camera?
Natalia Bilbao: I love working out, going on outdoor adventures, reading, writing, and hanging out with friends. I like to go on motorcycle riding trips and food discoveries.
ESHE Magazine: What do you have coming up next?
Natalia Bilbao: I’m currently filming a feature film in Alabama and I will start a new TV show for LA City View Channel 35 in 2 weeks.
ESHE Magazine: What advice do you have for someone who is just starting out in the industry?
Natalia Bilbao: Surround yourself with passionate and hard-working people who are moving in the same direction as you and have a strong work ethic. Dedicate time and energy to your craft and most importantly, don’t make it about you, but about others, that’s the best lesson, listen and pay attention to the world around you, and live, those will be your best acting lessons.
