Raheem DeVaughn, the Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter, is celebrating his 50th birthday with the release of “The Beat Jack Mixtape Mystery Pack (Vol. 1).” As a pioneer in R&B, he was the first artist in his genre to release a mixtape in the early 2000s. With the 20th anniversary of his debut album, “The Love Experience,” approaching, Raheem is showcasing his contributions to music culture. He released the full mixtape on Friday, May 9th. The second and third tracks in the mixtape include “Soft Girl Era” by Ari Lennox and “Residuals” by Chris Brown. Raheem expressed his passion for soul and R&B, stating, “I am a true fan of soul and R&B, and beat jacking these amazing songs celebrates the culture.” The first release, “Here We Go” by Coco Jones, allowed Raheem to put his unique spin on the track. He added, “As the host of the Original Quiet Storm on WHUR 96.3, I get to discover emerging artists. Coco is already a star, so beat jacking her song was essential, and I hope she and the listeners enjoy my rendition of ‘Here We Go (RahMix).’”
