Kiki Shephard, the Apollo Queen of Fashion, died yesterday, March 16, 2026, from a massive heart attack. Originally from Tyler, Texas, Shephard had an illustrious career in television, film, and theatre. Gifted with remarkable natural beauty and unique talents as an orator and dancer, her impact as a Black woman on screen will forever be significant. Shephard reached a global audience during her career as co-host of “Showtime at the Apollo” from 1987 to 2002. Kiki spoke to ESHE about the most impactful performances she ever witnessed at the world-famous Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York.
