L.A. Watts Summer Games Revival Legacy Gala

By David Jordan Jr

The city of Watts holds an unmatched place in history as it has been the grounds for dynamic and impactful events. A community which has practiced unification and upliftment amongst each other to highlight the great things Watts encompasses, the city’s rich history and legacy has been celebrated for years in California and beyond. One of the most impactful developments in Watts was the creation of the The L.A. Watts Summer Games. These games began in 1968 after the Watts Riots of 1965. The games were created to spearhead unity and community amongst the citizens from different areas of Los Angeles, California. The revival of these games was the foundation for the L.A. Watts Summer Games Revival Legacy Gala. Celebrating the history of the games and honoring Los Angeles Legends Jim Hill, Lou Dantzler, Lorinzer Clark and Dennis Love, the black tie gala recognized the legacy of the games and the Watts community while also laying the foundation for the summer games going forward.
